Blackberry Season

September 21, 2012 by A Husky Life 4 Comments

Rocco loves his berries. During the hot summer days he enjoys snacking on frozen blueberries, in June and July he picks raspberries from our neighbours’  yards – which they think is the cutest and funniest thing in the world! However, his absolute favourite are blackberries. They usually come in season very late August to mid-September, so now Rocco gets to finally enjoy the short-lived blackberry season.

The long, dirt road leading to one of our favourite dog beaches is flanked by berry bushes, and usually by the end of September at least one or two bears show up for the feast. After swimming, Rocco takes his sweet time walking back to the car, picking blackberries.

Sniffing to make sure he picks the ripe ones.
Those look nice and sweet.
Nom, nom…yummy.
Cant’s get enough!

Rocco is so very sweet. Our dogs love to smell the blackberries, but they haven’t taken a bite yet. We go on a walk every Saturday and Sunday morning in a field that is bordered on 3 sides with blackberry bushes, plus we have them near our home too. I just love the smell when you walk by.

I agree, the smell is amazing and if they grow in a sunny spot they can be so sweet and delicious 🙂 Most dogs don’t eat berries, it’s a Northern breed thing, I guess.
