Ferry Ride Across False Creek

December 11, 2012 by A Husky Life 12 Comments

Ever since I took Rocco on his first ferry ride across False Creekย  this summer, it has become one of his favourite activities. The little ferries, which are the only dog friendly public transportation in the city, shuttle locals and tourists across the small inlet, which separates Downtown from the rest of the city. Now, whenever we walk along the seawall, he goes straight to the dock and waits for the ferry to arrive. He even tries to run after them, when we’re far away from the dock! During one of his outings, Auntie Eva took a video of his ferry adventure.

This is on his way back from the doggy beach, after a nice long swim. I think it won’t be long till all the ferry operators know him by name!

If you have a smaller screen laptop, it’s best to view the video in Full Screen mode.

I love that the ferry lets dogs ride. We rented a boat when Sampson was just over a year old, it was a pontoon boat designed to be remodeled (normally they wouldn’t allow dogs) and he really enjoyed himself. I’m not sure how Delilah would do on a boat.

Apparently he is not bothered by the motion of the water beneath him. That’s so awesome!

I didn’t know what to expect the first time, I was sure I would have to carry him onto the ferry, but he just took to it like a water dog ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Rocco!!! Savannah here! What a pawtastic ferry boat ride…and you had a swimmy on a beach?! You are a truly brave Sibe, most don’t care for the water…salt or regular…except to drink and maybe splash their paws in. Have a pawsome holiday! Savannah

I get asked by other husky owners how to teach their dog to swim, but I can’t take any credit for it, one day I just saw him go for a swim and that was it lol

He is a very laid back dog ๐Ÿ™‚ It proves that with time and effort huskies can be trained.

Rocco, you are so handsome! What a gorgeous husky you are! You had such a good time on the ferry ride… and what a good boy you were! Hugs from a former husky mom!
