Ruff Guide to the United States

December 6, 2012 by A Husky Life 1 Comment

My favourite part of every summer are the road trips. I love packing up the car and going for an adventure. Rocco loves it just as much. Traveling with a dog, however, does require much more planning. It is no longer a spontaneous, spur of the moment thing. Finding dog friendly accommodation, researching trails and beaches, finding attractions and activities you can enjoy together, this can all be a bit overwhelming, and at times very frustrating.

Melissa Halliburton, the person behind the world’s leading pet-friendly travel website, BringFido.com, has also experience her fair share of headaches and frustrations while traveling with her best buddy, Rocco. Which is why she started the website, to make travel not only easier and more enjoyable, but also to find the best attractions that both you and your pet can enjoy.

After loosing Rocco to canine cancer and fighting her own battle with cancer, she decided to take the summer off and hit the road with her new travel buddy, Ace. From the 20, 000 miles traveled over the summer  the “Ruff Guide to the United States” was born, in which Melissa wants to put to rest the “misconception that traveling with a dog means staying at a fleabag motel and eating at drive-thru restaurants every meal.” In her book she wants to share all the amazing things you can do with your dog, no mater where you go, in any of the 50 States she visited. Things like surfing lessons in San Diego, hiking Dog Mountain in the Columbia Gorge, sleeping in a safari tent in Yellowstone National Park, a day on a lobster boat in Maine, and even riding a kiddy roller coaster  in Pennsylvania.

However, to publish this book Melissa needs your help. She is raising funds through KickStarter to be able to publish this high-quality, filled with full-colour photographs book.

If you love to travel with your dog, go visit her kickstarter page and make a pledge (starting at $1). I’m really looking forward to this book, since we have a few road trips planned into the States this coming summer!
