Training Thursday: Directed Retrieve

November 8, 2012 by A Husky Life 2 Comments

Now that Rocco has mastered simple retrieving, we are working on his directed retrieve. It’s definitely a challenge, since he likes to question commands and give his opinion. I have to make sure to hide the first object well, because he keeps pointing out that I already HAVE a toy! The exercise builds confidence in a dog who is asked to work away from their handler, and it certainly gets their brain working when you request them to bring a specific object.

As you can tell in this video, we still have a long ways to go.

I’ve had some laughs at them trying to get me to retrieve consistently. I say that if they throw it then they should go and get it!
