Emergency Preparedness

March 9, 2012 by A Husky Life Leave a Comment

Here’s a great emergency preparedness tip from Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals – Barrie Branch

EMERGENCY KITS FOR PETS: For our volunteers, adopters and donors who have visited the shelter…you *may* have noticed that in our Cat Adoption room, we have a Rubbermaid container on top of our cages, these Rubbermaid containers contain pillow cases. The pillow cases are in case of emergency. We can easily place a cat inside the pillow case (easier than a crate), tie a knot at the top and carry them outside (several at a time) and place them on the lawn and go back in for more. Pillow cases are an amazing way to transport a cat in distress during an emergency, it also gives them that non-visual to help calm them down. So don’t throw out your old pillow cases, keep a few for your own emergency kits!

I know that in case of an emergency trying to put Ilyich into a carrier would be close to impossible and would cost us precious time in the process, but a pillow case is a simple and safe alternative.
